Refinishing old cabinets is always cheaper and requires much less hassle to the homeowner. The cabinets pictured here were sanded and coated with a special undercoater to hide the wood grain and then painted with an acrylic-alkyd paint.  The finished product resembles brand new cabinets without the cost or installation problems.
